Arpita Mukherjee currently heads the functions of Legal and Compliance at Metro Cash and Carry, India. She lives and has been working out of Bangalore for the last 5 years but has spent most of her earlier life in Delhi. Arpita is a product of Hans Raj College and Campus Law Centre, both part of the North Campus of Delhi University. She started her professional career with Khaitan and Partners, in 1987 before changing tracks and joining the league of in-house counsels with Ms Kalpana Morparia’s legal team at ICICI Limited (erstwhile), in 1993. Since then, she has been part of in house legal teams of many leading corporates including IL&FS, Genpact, Accenture, Nokia Siemens Networks and then with Levi Strauss & Co as their Assistant General Counsel for South Asia. Arpita has also been a member of E&Y’s Forum for In House Counsels for the last 5 years. Arpita has managed compliances, both regulatory and in house, at most of her workplaces. She has been a Compliance Ombudsperson at Genpact apart from being the Compliance head at IL&FS and Levi Strauss & Co. She has had the distinction of crafting and implementing successful compliance programmes on applicable labour laws, RBI and SEBI mandated compliances as also owning and implementing compliances of policies on sexual harassment of women at workplaces. At METRO GROUP Arpita also forefronts the Group’s compliance programme of Anti-Trust, Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption policies. Arpita considers herself a life-long learner as that’s the part she enjoys the most every day of her working life. When not at work Arpita is fond of movies, exploring nooks and corners of India and driving long distances.
